Hire Awards of Excellence Finalists

Guess What? We’re Finalists in the Hire Awards of Excellence 2024! Yup, we made it to the finals in the ‘Best Use of New Media’ category. And you might be wondering, ‘Why?’ Well, let us explain it to you. Our campaigns are shaking up stereotypes about the construction industry.

Women Rock Construction

This campaign was all about shining a spotlight on women in construction. We’re on a mission to smash outdated stereotypes and show the world that women can rock it in this industry. It is said that just ‘15% of the UK construction workforce is made up of women’, which is a staggeringly low number. We’re here to change that narrative.

We cooked up three awesome videos featuring three incredible women in different roles within the industry. Our goal? Not just to raise awareness but to inspire the next generation of females to chase their dreams in construction. Each video posted on our social media was accompanied by an interview and they made quite an impact. Spreading the word that Women Rock Construction!

Spot the Signs

Working within the construction industry we are also aware of the worrying statistics that surround the subject of mental health. One of the most shocking is that:

‘Two people working in construction in the UK die by suicide every single day. That’s over 700 per year’

This is why it was important to us that we try and break the ‘macho’ stigma attached to the industry. It’s crucial to let people know that it is okay to talk, reach out and, most importantly, it is okay to ask for help.

To broadcast this message as far as we could, we put together five interview-style videos from people across multiple roles in the construction industry from a Site Manager to our very own Hire Desk Operations Manager James. We shared this across our socials in partnership with Norfolk and Waveney Mind so that anyone seeking help had somewhere to go.

We wanted to drive home one simple truth: it is always okay to reach out. Those who took part in the interviews all spoke openly and freely about the issues attached to the industry in the hopes that sharing their experiences would encourage others to step forward.

To strengthen the message behind the campaign, we wanted to make something that would tie itself back into the industry. So was born the construction sign. This showcases the physical attributes to look out for in people who may be struggling with their mental health. These include panic attacks, loss of self-esteem and a lack of personal hygiene. This sign was featured in the teaser campaign video, shown on a construction site.

This along with the interview videos on our Instagram and Linkedin saw a great engagement from those in and out of the industry. We are currently working on another video, so keep your eyes peeled for our next instalment.

Wish us luck!

The awards ceremony takes place on Saturday 13th April 2024 at Grosvenor House in London. We’ll be attending in all our finery so make sure to check our socials for updates.
